Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
